Miguel BERROCAL

Miguel Ortiz Berrocal (Villanueva de Algaidas, 1933 - Antequera, 2006) was a renowned Spanish artist who left an indelible mark on the world of contemporary sculpture, especially through his complex and innovative works.
He drew on classical themes (torsos, heads, or reclining figures) and, above all, a certain anthropomorphism to avoid an excessively geometric and abstract result, although the influence of mathematics and architecture in his sculptures is evident, stemming from his own inclination and academic background. The meticulousness and precision in creating complex manipulable pieces, the exactness of the designs, and the subsequent assemblies result in sculptural elements formed, in turn, by other pieces that have their own identity.
