Raoul UBAC

Raoul Ubac (Malmedy, 1910 - Dieudonné, 1985) is a central figure of the so-called Nouvelle École de Paris and a key exponent in the evolution of European material abstraction. His interdisciplinary production should be interpreted as a systematic investigation into the morphology of matter and its capacity for spiritual evocation.

The Belgian master began studying literature and science before dedicating himself to art in Paris, where his training was nourished by a deep curiosity for the rhythms of the earth, existential poetry, as well as Romanesque art and philosophy, telluric obsessions that accompanied him until the end of his life.
"My work is an attempt to find the radiance of the world in the wound of the stone."
Raoul Ubac.
